La Petite Maison
A retired couple wanted a “down-sized” residence that would speak to authenticity and quality over size. On a very small parcel (perhaps a blessing in disguise) space was at a premium and a layout of four rooms with a master suite was created to make the most out of what was available. The goals were to create a thoughtful retreat that celebrated solid materials and forms- using a simple program of 2 bedrooms and a one car garage/ party pavilion.
Outdoor spaces for guest parking were created in the remaining site by editing driveway and motor courts and side and rear gardens creating privacy and a buffer within the small setbacks. Inside, three simple interior spaces of a vaulted living room, wooden ceilinged kitchen and den- were arranged to communicate easily while maintaining their own unique experience and feeling to each space.
